What does it mean to join our team? Why should I do it? How can I do it? Read on to find some answers!
What does it mean to join our team? Our job with Campus Crusade for Christ involves mobilizing people in an effort to help fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Those who partner with us to this end we like to call team members. Our team members support us by offering us their influence, expertise, resources, and prayers.
They support us with their influence by introducing us to friends who have a heart for the lost whom they think would be excited to hear about our ministry. They support us with their expertise by helping us network to business resources (such as web design) that can advance our ministry. They support us with their resources by making financial gifts to our ministry, either on a one-time or a recurring basis. Finally, they support us with their prayers by committing to pray regularly for our ministry. Most of our team members only support us in one or two of these regions. Some support us in all four, as the Lord has enabled them.
Why should I join your team? We invite you to consider three things:
1. You can help fulfill the Great Commission. Many people have a heart for the lost, but due to family or work commitments, feel unable to help with this important task. Becoming a team member with us is a great way to be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission because instead of going to the "mission field" yourself, you can empower us to go on your behalf. Furthermore, you can pray specifically for our ministry and the people we meet and you can help us with specific ministry needs as they arise. In the past, we have needed everything from auto mechanical help to professional audio help to personal accounting help. It is often a joy for people to find that their own expertise can be utilized in our ministry.
2. The promises of scripture. Consider just these few verses of the many we might site.
"Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainly of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed" - 1 Timothy 6:17-19
"The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered" - Proverbs 11:25
"Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints; so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and find refreshing rest in your company." - Romans 15:32
"Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God." - 2 Corinthians 9:10-11
Finally, consider what the apostle John says himself of his own evangelists, whom he sends out from his church: "For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore, we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth." 3 John 7-8
3. Our need is real and urgent. Without team members who support us with their influence, expertise, resources, and prayers, we simply cannot carry out the ministry to which we have been called. When people do not pray for our ministry, we can notice the difference. We cannot change people's hearts; only God can do that work, so our prayers are always needed. The ever-changing dynamics of our ministry make our needs for specific kinds of expertise different all the time.
When it comes to money, Campus Crusade has no central funds for paying its staff members. Instead, we are dependent on the consistent financial support of our team members to pay our ministry expenses, health care, and salary. Due to the natural attrition that takes place over time, we are always in need of people's financial resources. We generally challenge people to donate $100 a month, but our financial supports who give monthly give in widely ranging increments. We also need people's influence. Left to ourselves, we simply do not know enough people to invite to join our team that will cover all of our needs, particularly our financial needs. When our team members introduce us to others, this becomes a tremendous blessing.
